NEWCASTLE UNITED SEEKS TOWNSEND’S RETURN

Newcastle United are considering re-signing England international, Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace as the Championship side targets experienced players for promotion chase.

Following their move to the top of the log after a hard-fought 2-1 home victory over Brentford, Rafa Benitez looks to strengthen his squad as the tile race heats up.

According to reports on Saturday night, the toon coach is making moves to bring the winger back to Saint James Park. Townsend departed the club last summer in a £13 million deal following their relegation to the English second tier, the 25 year old winger has struggled to command appearances under new boss- Sam Allardyce with his place in the team being threatened by the arrival of Jeffery Schlupp from Leicester City.

Newcastle fans reacted with delight on Twitter after learning of the news, hoping that it is true and would like to see the player back in the toon’s squad.

Despite the player starting for Sam Allardyce in Saturday’s 3-0 loss away to West Ham United, Newcastle United are ready to enquire as to whether Andros Townsend wants to return to Tyneside and if all parties would be receptive to a deal.

Newcastle United wants a wide player and have considered the likes of Hull City’s Sam Clucas, Robert Snodgrass and Tom Cleverly who departed Everton for Watford last week.

Clucas, 26, has been in impressive form for Hull City and they would be reluctant to let him go in this transfer window, while Snodgrass is been chased by fellow league opponents- West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United. It is now left for Newcastle United to step-up their Bid to sign the Englishman with reports stating that Newcastle United have turned down an opportunity to sign striker Dimitar Berbatov who is a free agent from French Club, F.C Monaco.
